The Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team has had an incredible season so far. They currently stand undefeated in WCAL and have an impressive overall record of 16-1. With three league games left before CCS, the team has high hopes for the postseason.
Despite many monumental wins this season, one that stands out to the team is their 4-0 win against rival Archbishop Mitty, early on in WCAL league play. Forward Natalie Chan (’25) stated, “It was only our second league game, but we showed up as a team, connected well, and worked together perfectly.” Team captain and midfielder Kaya Rosa (’23) added that “everyone came out ready to play and pushed themselves plus each other past [their] limits…. This win showed how much work we have been putting in this season, and everyone did whatever they could to help the team reach our full potential…. People never failed to be loud and cheer us on from the bench, which really showed how much we all play for each other.”
Defender Mireille Del Santo (’26) described the team’s preparations for the game: “Coach Carlos’ training included studying film of their team, and it was incredible to see how all this training on and off the field came together.”
Later in the season, the team took on Mitty again, this time at home. They came out on top 3-2, with sophomore Kamryn Rosa scoring in the final minutes of the game and completing a hat trick.
Another significant game was the team’s 1-0 league win against Saint Ignatius. After losing to the opposing team in the preseason at the Fremont Tournament finals, Kaya Rosa said that she and her teammates felt disappointed: “We knew we didn’t play to our full potential. That game woke us up and helped us realize that everyone is after us this season and we have to constantly be on our best game. After that, we all shifted our mindsets, and we have focused on bringing our best to every single activity we do. Leading up to the [win], we had a great week of practice, and everyone approached the game ready to give our best.” After the league win, Chan stated, “It was a really tough game, physically and mentally, and like always, I’m so proud of the team for putting our heads down and working hard like.”
The team’s impressive winning streak can be attributed to hard work, cohesiveness, and team efforts. Rosa said, “The dynamic is incredible. Everyone is truly a family and so supportive of each other. Practices and games are constantly loud and filled with people encouraging each other.” As captain, she ensures that team spirit stays strong: “Off the field, we do a lot of team-bonding events…. When we have a tough game or practice, we check in with each other, in order to focus on the future and make sure we are fully present for upcoming games!”
Del Santo added, “We all love soccer, so that makes all the training and commitment fun.” Chan agrees, stating, “On this team, the culture is centered around respect for one another and being supportive no matter what.”
