Saint Francis…
Are you ready…
For Saint Francis’s Got Talent, where dreams come true!!
Four spotlights illuminate the dark stage, revealing our contestants for the evening: Ms. Theresa Orozco, Mr. Mike Chechelnitsky, and Mr. Dan Quinn!
Our first contestant makes her entrance! Mrs. Orozco, our favorite—and highly talented—AP Spanish Language teacher, made her way onto the stage next. Dressed in vibrant colors, she decided to perform a dance style of Cuban salsa called the casino. As a member of a casino dance team, she danced very elegantly. With quick and controlled steps, she fluidly and perfectly executed the dance as energetic timba music played in the background. With high energy, fluid movement, and ongoing connection through the music, Sra. Orozco’s casino left us in awe of her talent, giving her a standing ovation for her excellent performance!
Next up, Mr. Chech, known for his skills in Calculus BC, stepped up to the stage, appearing confident and ready to perform his talent. We waited in anticipation as he set up the microphone. To our pleasant surprise, he began whistling a melodious tune—one we instantly recognized as “I See the Light” from Tangled. He even coordinated his outfit with the song by wearing purple, which we loved so much! As it is one of our favorite songs from the movie, we loved every minute of the performance and applauded his skill for whistling the tune so precisely! We could have never anticipated this unique skill that Mr. Chech has!
Last, but definitely not least, Mr. Quinn—our beloved AP Lang teacher—walked to the stage in an all-black outfit, wearing a hoodie. He took out a laptop, monitor, and keyboard from his backpack and started to set them up. We watched this preparation in suspense, knowing that he had something interesting in store for us. Finally, he looked up at the crowd and began to speak of his talent: stalking and locating the homes of famous Irish poets. He recounted his endeavor of finding Seamus Heaney, one of his favorite poets. Mr. Quinn then announced his challenge for his talent today: he will, within seven minutes, identify the location of any Irish poet of our choosing. Convinced by his confidence, we chose Paul Muldoon, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet. The timer began counting down, and Mr. Quinn got started right away. The crowd went fully silent, so all we could hear was the clicking of Mr. Quinn’s backlit keyboard. As soon as the timer rang, he turned his monitor around, revealing the satellite view of none other than Paul Muldoon’s house! We looked at the screen in shock because we could even see Muldoon himself gardening in the map view!! Thoroughly impressed by his amazing talent for stalking, we asked him about his secret to effective stalking; he replied with a vague “it only works for Irish poets,” leaving us wondering how he acquired such a talent.
Nevertheless, all the teachers’ talents never failed to impress us—each and every one received a standing ovation from the whole crowd. Once again, the four teachers stood at the stage, illuminated by spotlights. As they eagerly awaited the decision of the winner of the trophy for Saint Francis’s Teachers’ Got Talent, Judge Mahi realized that the crowd loved all the performances equally! All their talents—Profe Orozco’s elegant casino, Mr. Chech’s melodious whistling, and Mr. Quinn’s detailed stalking—made us appreciate each teacher even more, and they all deserve recognition for the hard work that brought them here tonight. Finally, Judge Mahi announced the winner of the competition:
“And the winner is…EVERYONE!!!”
She handed out crowns and trophies to all the teachers as the confetti settled on the stage. Finally, the teachers took a bow to close off the show, and the curtains closed.
