This team simply cannot stop scoring. The CCS reigning champions, the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team, are continuing their momentum into this season as they currently sit first in WCAL with an overall record of 11-1-1. Fueled by determination and teamwork, the Lancers’ strong chemistry allows them to beat teams comfortably. They are looking forward to competing for another CCS championship and a deep run in the CIF playoffs.
These Lancers waited no time to establish themselves as one of the best teams in the section, as they went through the entire preseason undefeated. The individual quality of all the players is clear when watching these Lancers play. Unlike many other high school soccer teams, they tend to move the ball around with short passes and good movement to progress. It is clear that it’s working, as the Lancers have scored 58 goals this year and only conceded three in the year so far. After the first half of the WCAL season, they are at the top of WCAL with only one loss.
Captains Brooklyn O’Brien (’25) and Kamryn Rosa (’25) have been incredibly influential in the success of this team. Their experience and leadership have provided stability, especially for younger players adjusting to playing at the varsity level. Their senior experience and versatility also push the players to be the best versions of themselves. There are many other stars on the team, such as Caitlin Motil (’26) and Gianna Nurisso (’25), staying in charge of the defense. This Lancer team has found a lot of its success from its experienced players, especially from the captains.
Coach Carlos Barboza also provides incredible support in this team’s current success. Throughout his five years of being the head coach of the girls soccer program, he preaches dedication, teamwork, and representation. His work ethic and leadership skills push these Lancers to compete on the field as well as learn life lessons off the field. Because of his influence, the team won WCAL and a CCS championship last year, and are looking to do the same this year.
Girls’ Soccer hasn’t let its only loss to Mitty stop the team. The Lancers bounced back with a great win against Valley Christian just two days later with an incredible 6-0 scoreline. Moments like these show how wonderfully this team works together to score goals, win games, and express themselves. They have formed such incredible bonds with each other, so it makes it very hard to stop these Lancers from losing their remarkable form.
