The Saint Francis varsity football team currently has an impressive 8-2 overall record, along with a 6-1 record in league. This year’s group of Lancers has shown resilience, teamwork, and great performances on the gridiron, positioning themselves for a deep run into the playoffs. Saint Francis football is prepared to make its mark in the postseason behind its star running back Kingston Keanaaina (’25).
At the root of the success for the Lancers is signal caller Aaron Knapp (’25), who has been an integral leader thus far into the year. Throughout the season, Knapp has thrown for 1,170 yards and passed for 14 touchdowns. His ability to diagnose defenses, make quick decisions, and deliver quick, accurate passes has been instrumental in the Saint Francis offense. Knapp shows constant composure amid the pressure that playoffs bring. Along with most successful football teams, the Saint Francis offense features a strong running game spearheaded by one of the top running backs in the Central Coast Section, Keanaaina. Keanaaina has 1731 yards this season with 15 rushing touchdowns, averaging 173.1 yards per game. Keanaaina has a natural ability to break tackles and find small openings in defenses, making him a valuable tool on offense. His explosive run game has forced opponents to defend against running plays as well as deep balls from Knapp. Defenses attempting to key on Keanaaina load the box and create mismatches on the outside that the Lancers can exploit. In addition to a reliable quarterback and stable running plays, the Lancers have a reliable receiving corps, led by receivers Perrion Williams (’26) and Grant Righellis (’25). Compiling 582 receiving yards and 318 yards for seven touchdowns respectively, they have proven on many occasions that they can make critical catches at key moments in games. Williams and Righellis have the unique ability to stretch the field and create separation, making them serious receiving threats.
Beyond the individual accolades lies an even larger narrative based on teamwork and determination. Instilled by the Saint Francis coaching staff, a culture of hard work and perseverance is prevalent at every practice and game. With the playoffs looming, the Lancers are not only going in as an 8-2 team, but also as a well-oiled unit with all the correct pieces set in place. Their mix of a relentless defense, a potent offense with many weapons at Coach Greg Calcagno’s (’83) disposal, and a great team spirit sets them up for a legendary playoff run.
As students are planning to come out in droves to rally behind their fellow classmates, the school is buzzing with excitement. With their next playoff game coming up, the main question is if Saint Francis can keep up the same passion and grit to power them through this stage of the season. This is only the beginning of the Lancers’ journey, and they are ready to make their mark under the brightest of lights.
